Coati-X
In Europe, one of the critical challenges in the healthcare system is preventing complications from medical devices such as intravenous catheters. These devices often lead to infections and thrombosis, significantly impacting patient outcomes and increasing healthcare costs. Coati-X aims to address these issues with an innovative bioactive coating made of cross-linked nanogels that can release anti-thrombotic and antibiotic drugs, simultaneously preventing infections and thrombosis.

Project resource ↗MiWear
PROJECT FOCUS: One of the main burdens for our socioeconomic system in Europe by a single disease is without question the metabolic syndrome (MbS). MbS is prominently visible in the large and ever-growing number of overweight or obese individuals. Yet, its true negative dramatic consequences among others are arteriosclerosis, hereby induced myocardial infarction, and stroke.
We provide an approach for the measurement of biomarkers, using a miniatured Mid-Infrared spectrometer, a technology that is only used in laboratories due to its size and cost. The result of the project will be a wearable device to detect biomarkers non-invasively and pain-free in the interstitial fluid in the skin.

HAPLO-iPS
HAPLO-iPS will generate cells for therapy that are homozygous for frequent Human Leukocyte Antigen haplotypes. In other words, cells compatible with a large portion of the population. We are also creating a system to collect and keep and track of all these cell lines.
The project brings together experts from many fields: stem cell research, immunology, ethics, clinical therapy, cord blood banking, regulatory affairs, and more, all working together for the future of therapy.
HAPLO-iPS will make stem cell therapies faster, more affordable, and accessible to millions of patients across Europe. This will offer new hope for many conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, heart disease, and diabetes.
